•    Best websites to use

Selling a car can be a daunting task, especially when you haven’t done it before, but nowadays there is a myriad of ways to do it, especially now nearly everyone has some form of access to the internet. However, with more choices comes more confusion!

Pricing

If you’re thinking of selling your car, it’s always best to have a look around at what price a car of your make and model is going for, as this can give you a good guide when it comes to gauging the right price for yours. You also need to think about what you need to write in the advert, this should include as much information about the car as you can think of, including its service history, any upgrades or modifications you’ve made and when its MoT test is due. The more information you include in your ad will reduce the number of time wasters you speak to and the less time you’ll be answering questions from interested parties.

Imagery

Another thing to consider is what images you put with the advert. People are very visual, so these images need to be eye catching and it’s a good idea to clean your car inside and out before you take pictures to make it as presentable and appealing as possible. You should also try to take a range of different images to showcase all aspects of the car, like the outside, tyres, boot, inside, back seats – in fact, everywhere you’d want to look if you were the one buying a car!

Small repairs

If you’re worried that the condition of the car isn’t the best and will reduce the value in the eyes of the buyer, you can look at getting certain things repaired. Small cosmetic faults can be easily fixed in a matter of hours and allow you to increase your asking price. Details like minor scratches, broken bulbs or stained seats can all also be remedied quickly and won’t cost you too much, but will make a difference when potential buyers are viewing the car.

Best websites

Now you’ve created your advert, you need to look into what websites would be suitable to list your car on. There are many to choose from: Auto Trader, CarWow, Evans Halshaw, Facebook Marketplace and Parker’s to name just a few, and you can list them on one or all of the websites you find, just be prepared to answer a lot of questions about the car and potentially arrange numerous viewings!

If this seems like a lot of hassle and you just want to sell your car quickly and easily, then there are also other options, such as websites that buy your car from you and sell it on, for example We Buy Any Car, or even doing a part exchange with an independent outlet or at a dealership.

As you can see, there are many different ways to sell a car, but the main points to remember are to make sure you do your research, get things fixed before advertising and be detailed about the vehicle and its history.

Finally, once you sell the car, make sure that you hand over the necessary documents and inform the DVLA of the sale via the V5C form.
